HIP-3 Builder Dexs on Hyperliquid
HIP-3 lets anyone deploy their own perpetual markets on Hyperliquid. What that means for the assets you can trade and the risks that come with it.
What HIP-3 is
HIP-3 is the standard that lets a third party deploy their own perpetual markets on Hyperliquid without asking permission. The deployer stakes HYPE, defines the markets, and runs the oracle that prices them. The protocol provides matching, margining and settlement.
Why it matters
It decouples listing from the core protocol. Equity indices, commodities, individual stocks and long-tail crypto can all appear as perpetual markets without a governance vote. Markets such as S&P 500, oil and gold perps exist on Hyperliquid today through builder dexs rather than through the main universe.
How they differ from core markets
Builder dex markets have their own clearinghouse. Margin posted there is separate from your main perps balance, and cross margin applies within a dex rather than across all of them. Positions and orders are tracked per dex, which is why an interface has to query each one separately to show you a complete account.
The risks that are actually different
The oracle is the deployer's, not the protocol's. If it is thin, delayed or wrong, marks and liquidations follow it anyway. Liquidity is usually far shallower than core markets, so slippage and wick risk are higher. And the deployer defines contract terms: read them rather than assuming they match the core perps you are used to.
None of that makes builder markets unusable. It makes them markets where position sizing matters more and where market orders deserve more caution than they do on BTC.
